• 2008 Denvention 3, Denver, USA: shortlisted as Best Fanwriter and Ansible shortlisted as Semiprozine. At last, after 18 straight years of fanwriter wins, I get a rest -- losing to John Scalzi. The usual loss to Locus in semiprozine ... and currently they're planning to abolish this category altogether (a decision that needs ratification next year).
• 2007 Nippon 2007, Yokohama, Japan (64th World SF Convention): oh dearie me, another win as Best Fanwriter! Ansible was shortlisted for Semiprozine but -- as is now traditional -- lost to Locus. • The End of Harry Potter? appeared on the longlist or recommendations list for the British Fantasy Awards' newly added nonfiction category, but didn't make it to the shortlist.

• 2006 L.A.con IV, Anaheim, USA (64th World SF Convention): my twentieth Hugo as Best Fanwriter. Other nominations were The SEX Column as Best Related Book and Ansible as Semiprozine.
• 2005 Ansible, despite its naughty claim to be a semiprozine, was the Best Fanzine winner in the relaunched N3F sf achievement awards ("Neffies") for 2004 work. • Interaction, Glasgow (63rd World SF Convention): Hugo Award for Best Fanwriter, and for the first time Ansible won Best Semiprozine!
• 2004 Noreascon 4, Boston (62nd World SF Convention): Hugo Award for Best Fanwriter. Ansible was again shortlisted as Best Semiprozine, and again lost to Locus.

• 2003 Torcon 3, Toronto (61st World SF Convention): Hugo Award for Best Fanwriter. Ansible was shortlisted for the first time as Best Semiprozine, but of course lost to Locus. • Seacon '03, Hinckley (UK Eastercon): British SF Association Award for Best Related Work, for the introduction to Maps: The Uncollected John Sladek. I owe it all to Ben Jeapes of Big Engine, who published Maps, and of course to the genius of John Sladek, who wrote so much fine uncollected material. • Seiun Award: "Different Kinds of Darkness" (Japanese translation) shortlisted in the shorter-fiction category -- it lost to Greg Egan's "Luminous", which is fair enough.

• 2002 ConJosé, San José, CA (60th World SF Convention): Hugo Award for Best Fanwriter; Hugo Award for Best Fanzine, Ansible. • Boskone 39, Framingham, Massachusetts: New England SF Association Skylark Award for contributions to sf, presented in memory of E.E. "Doc" Smith. Another total surprise.

• 2001 • The Millennium Philcon, Philadelphia (59th World SF Convention): Hugo Award for Best Short Story, "Different Kinds of Darkness" (F&SF January 2000); Hugo Award for Best Fanwriter. Never before had I even been shortlisted for a Hugo in a fiction category -- this was utterly unexpected!
• 2000 • Chicon 2000, Chicago (58th World SF Convention): Hugo Award for Best Fanwriter.
• 1999 • Aussiecon 3, Melbourne (57th World SF Convention): Hugo Award for Best Fanwriter; Hugo Award for Best Fanzine, Ansible. It was wonderful to be there -- as sole beneficiary of a one-off fan fund, the "Auld Lang Fund" -- and able at last to accept in person at a Worldcon outside Europe.

• 1998 • Bucconeer, Baltimore (56th World SF Convention): Hugo Award for Best Fanwriter. As a contributing editor I was also very, very pleased that The Encyclopedia of Fantasy ed. John Clute and John Grant was the winner for Best Related Book. (It additionally picked up the Eaton, Locus, Mythopoeic and World Fantasy Awards.)
• 1997 • LoneStarCon 2, San Antonio, Texas (55th World SF Convention): Hugo Award for Best Fanwriter.
• 1996 • LAcon 3, Anaheim (54th World SF Convention): Hugo Award for Best Fanwriter; Hugo Award for Best Fanzine, Ansible.

• 1986 • British SF Association Award for Best Short Fiction, "Cube Root" (Interzone 1985). The BSFA has always been a bit random about its actual trophies, and I was delighted when the actual, physical award at last made its surprise appearance at the 1997 presentation....

• 1984 • Seacon '84, Brighton (35th UK Eastercon + Eurocon), European SF Award for The Science in Science Fiction -- shared with co-authors Peter Nicholls and Brian Stableford.
• 1980 • TransAtlantic Fan Fund winner, attending Noreascon 2, Boston.
• 1979 • Fanzine Activity Achievement (FAAn) Award for Best Fan Writer.
• 1977 • Novacon 7, Birmingham: Nova Award for Best British Fanzine, Twll-Ddu.

David Langford has been shortlisted for the Best Fan Writer Hugo each year since 1979. Twll-Ddu was shortlisted as Best Fanzine in 1979, and Ansible in 1984, 1985, 1994, 1997, 1998, and 2000-2002. In 2003 Ansible moved to the Best Semiprozine shortlist, and continues (2008) to appear there. Let's Hear It for the Deaf Man was shortlisted as Best Non-Fiction in 1993, and ultimately placed second; The Silence of the Langford was shortlisted as Best Non-Fiction in 1997, and The SEX Column as Best Related Book in 2006.
